Rajnath Singh visits Siachen Glacier to review security situation

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday visited Siachen Glacier and reviewed the security situation along the borders with Pakistan.

The Defence Minister was accompanied by Army Chief General Bipin Rawat.He also interacted with the soldiers and officers to know about the issues faced by them.

The Defence Minister was also given presentations on functioning of 14 and 15 corps, including the Army’s overall preparedness.The Army’s 14 Corps guards the Line of Actual Control with China as well as the Line of Control with Pakistan.

The Srinagar-based 15 Corp is mainly tasked with carrying out anti-terror operations in the Kashmir valley.The Siachen Glacier in the Karakorum range is known as the highest militarised zone in the world where the soldiers have to battle frostbite and high winds.

The Defense Minister also paid tribute to the martyred soldiers who sacrificed their lives while serving in Siachen.More than 1100 soldiers have made supreme sacrifice defending the Siachen Glacier.

While interacting with the soldiers, the Defence minister saluted the spirit and valour of the jawans while adding that the armed forces have a sense of pride that is strongest sentiment in the heart of any human.
