Rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts have gathered pace in Kerala with the rain abating and flood waters receding. The state govt has assured that the rescue operations would continue till the last stranded man is saved. Here’s a detailed report on the latest situation in Kerala.

With rain abating and flood waters receding in parts of Kerala….rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts have gathered momentum.

The weather has improved since 2 days but flood waters have not receded in several places in Ernakulum, Thrissur, Pathanam-thitta, Alapuza, and Kollam districts even though at other places the situation is improving.

The quantum of water being released from dams has reduced. If it does not rain in the coming days as well, the situation may become normal sooner than later.

Rail and road movement is coming back on track. Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, NDRF, SDRF and state police are engaged in rescue and relief operations. 59 NDRF teams are on the job in 10 districts.

The state govt assured that the rescue operations would continue till the last stranded person is rescued. An all-party meeting reviewed rescue and relief operations in Kerala on Tuesday. Attention is also being paid to providing clean drinking water and medicines to the flood-affected.

Railways is supplying clean drinkling water. 150 water purifiers of 1 lakh liters capacity have been sent. With flood waters receding, people are heading back to their homes.

At places where the flood waters receded, electrical equipment and furniture were found to be damaged by the flood water. Those returning home require ready to eat food packets and clothes besides the services of plumbers, electricians and carpenters to name a few.

40,000 police personnel have been deployed for sanitation works. Over 10 lakh people have found refuge in more than 3,200 relief camps.

Among the displaced are 2 lakh 12,000 women and one lakh children below the age of 12 years. Petrol pumps have started functioning in some locations.

Relief agencies, states govts, private organisations and people from across the country are pitching in with assistance for the flood-affected. NCC cadets and volunteers are extending help at relief camps where food, water, clothes and medicines are being provided.
