Reuters photographer arrested in Negombo and remanded

In Sri Lanka, a photographer has been arrested in Negombo and remanded. Police said that Danish Siddiqui from Reuters, who is based in India was arrested when he allegedly attempted to forcibly enter a school in Katana.

Police said he had attempted to enter the school to obtain information regarding a student killed in the bombing of St. Sebastian’s Church in Katuwapitiya when parents who were at the school at the time alerted the Police. Meanwhile, bodies of several terrorists have been buried without religious rites on the instructions of religious dignitaries.

Police pulled out 15 bodies including six children from a hideout in Eastern Sri Lanka on Saturday following an overnight gun battle where several explosions were heard.

Police spokesman Ruwan Gunasekera said the bodies of six children were buried with  religious rituals last evening. Those who dies were linked with Easter Sunday bombings which killed 257 people including 42 foreigners.
