SAD:Cong arm-twisting councillors to turn rebels
Chandigarh, August-The SAD today paraded its councillors from Zirakpur, Dera Bassi and Lalru who, it alleged, had been implicated in false cases to pressure them to join the Congress.
The SAD-BJP has a majority in these three municipal councils. At least 12 councillors of the three local bodies were booked in the past fortnight and another six were being threatened, alleged Akali Dal general secretary Dr Daljit Singh Cheema, while addressing a press conference here this evening.
Party MLA from Dera Bassi NK Sharma alleged: “Since the Congress has no representative in these councils, it is resorting to such tactics. This is being done at the behest of a Congress leader from Dera Bassi who had lost the Assembly election.”
Sharma’s two brothers — Yadwinder Sharma and Dharminder Sharma – too were booked when they backed their supporters in a protest against an illegal liquor vend in Zirakpur.
