SC to hear matters related to Kashmir issue from today

The Supreme Court on Monday referred a batch of petitions challenging abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir to its Constitution bench which would hear the matters from Tuesday.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi referred the pleas to its five-judge bench.A five-judge Constitution bench headed by justice N V Ramana will hear the matters related to the Kashmir issue from Tuesday.

The Supreme Court refused to further entertain Rajya Sabha MP, Vaiko’s plea seeking to produce former Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah before it and said the MDMK leader can challenge the detention order under the Public Safety Act.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi told Vaiko’s counsel that Abdullah was under detention under the Public Safety Act.

SITUATION CONTINUES TO BE NORMAL

After the abrogation of article 370 in J&K, the situation continues to be normal on Monday…the 57th day.Markets opened and vehicular movement remained smooth.

Barring the mobile services, there is no other restriction in the valley.Mobile services are banned in Kashmir except Handwara and Kupwara.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said the abrogation of Articles 370 was a true tribute to nearly 35,000 jawans martyred over the years. He said the move by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will bring permanent peace in J&K.
