DC BATS FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF FOOLPROOF ARRANGEMENTS FOR PADDY PROCUREMENT AND LIFTING

Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma today said that said that the concerned Sub Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) would be held accountable for any sort of delay in purchase and lifting of paddy in their respective areas.

Chairing a meeting to review the ongoing paddy procurement in the district, the Deputy Commissioner categorically said that any sort of callousness in the procurement of grains was not at all tolerable. He said that the SDMs should have to ensure foolproof arrangements by involving the entire government machinery so that the golden harvest of the farmers’ was procured as soon as it was brought in the market. Mr. Sharma said that the foolproof mechanism needs to be implemented for this procurement so that farmers do not face any sort of inconvenience in the mandis.

The Deputy Commissioner asked the SDMs to personally go to the mandis for overseeing the entire operations. Likewise, he said that the Revenue Officers at the local level along with the Block Development and Panchayat Officers should also be roped in for visiting the grain markets to ensure smooth, timely and hassle free procurement of the paddy. Mr. Sharma said that the officers/ officials should daily visit the mandis and submit the report to him personally by the evening.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner also asked the SDMs to exercise their powers and take punitive action against any officer/ officials or any unscrupulous element, which harasses the farmers’ during the procurement operations. He said that as per the commitment of the state government the paddy must be procured and lifted at the earliest to facilitate the farmers.
