SGPC to develop green belt in Golden Temple complex
Amritsar,
The SGPC has decided to develop a green belt inside the Golden Temple complex.
The executive body led by SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal had approved the proposal, following which SGPC officials on Monday held a meeting with
experts.
Two parks located between Guru Ram Dass Jee Langar Hall and Gurdwara Manji Sahib have been demarcated for planting all-season herbal plants that will not
only give a beautiful look but will also have medicinal value.
SGPC’s chief secretary Dr Roop Singh said that at least 400 types of rare species of flowers and saplings would be planted. Experts would decide on the type
of landscaping, special lighting and fountains to be set up.
In consultation with former dean, Punjab Agricultural University, Dr JS Arora and GNDU’s horticulture expert Dr Jaswinder Singh, the task of developing the
green belt would be undertaken by kar sewak Baba Sukhwinder Singh Buriwale.
Dr Jaswinder Singh said, “Our emphasis will be to develop the parks in such a manner that it will educate the visitors. There will be a brief description of each
and every variety.”
