Shako to team up with Bajrang again
Bajrang Punia is once again teaming up with his Georgian coach Shako Bentinidis, whose contract was terminated by JSW a week ago at the behest of the wrestler.
Bentinidis, who was said to be upset at the sudden ouster, is returning as Punia’s personal coach after he was offered a contract till the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The 25-year-old was also eyeing to team up with Soslan Ramonov, who had won the gold medal in 2016 Olympics. Ramonov has since announced plans to return to the mat.
There were murmurs of Hossein Karimi returning to India for Punia as well. However, this idea was shot down by WFI officials as they had fired Karimi only last month for failing to gel with the team.
The Wrestling Federation of India has offered the contract which will be funded by the federation’s principal sponsor, TATA Yodha.Punia, it is said, was not satisfied with Wilfredo Garcia Quintana, who was in Delhi for a week and was training the three-time World Championships medallist in Sonepat.Quintana, meanwhile, has been asked to join as one of the coaches for WFI’s upcoming academy that is almost ready in Faridabad.
