Anjum Moudgil and Apurvi Chandela became the first set of Indian shooters to secure quota places for the 2020 Olympics. Anjum won the silver medal, while Apurvi finished fourth in the women’s 10m air rifle event in the ISSF World Championship here today.

Anjum shot a total of 248.4 in the eight-woman final to open the Indian senior squad’s medal count in the prestigious tournament. The 24-year-old finished second behind South Korea’s Hana Im, while the bronze medal also went to another South Korean Eunhea Jung .

Apurvi aggregated 207 points to finish fourth but still made the cut as a country can avail two Olympics quota places in this event.
The international shooting federation’s premier tournament assumes added significance as it is the first Olympics quota event for the Tokyo Games, offering as many as 60 berths across 15 events.

Both Anjum and Apurvi had quite a few high 10s in the finals. In the qualifications, Anjum and Apurvi finished fourth and sixth, respectively. Though the two shooters have secured quotas, as per the stated policy, the National Rifle Association of India will take the final call on selection based on the aggregate scores of shooters leading up to the Olympic Games.
