Shot-putter Manpreet gets 4-yr suspension for dope violation

The National Anti-Doping Agency has suspended Manpreet Kaur for four years for a doping violation. The shot putter, who had won the gold at the Asian Grand Prix Athletics in Jinhua in 2017, was sanctioned after her samples showed the presence of anabolic steroid metenlone and a banned stimulant, dimethylbutylamine.

As a result, Manpreet stands to lose all her results, including her national record of 18.86 metres she had created at the Jinhua event in April 2017. Manpreet, who hails from Sahauli village in Patiala, tested positive for four samples taken last year. The four samples were taken at the Asian Grand Prix on April 24; Federation Cup on June 1 in Patiala; Asian Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar on July 6; and the Inter-State  Championships held in Guntur on July 16. However, all four adverse analytical findings were considered as a single offence.

Manpreet had requested for a reduced sanction after stating that she was a victim of sabotage and alleged that a Railways’ kabaddi player may have spiked her drink after a verbal spat. Her food supplements were tested at the National Dope Testing Laboratory at the behest of NADA and it was found that one of the supplements she was consuming at the time  ‘OCD Extreme Pre Workout formula” showed traces of dimethylbutylamine. However, the above report did not have any bearing on the decision taken by the panel, headed by Kuldeep Singh.
