Sidhu meets Sonia, Priyanka, briefs them on Punjab situation
After lying low for months, former Punjab Cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu returned to the political scene as he held back-to-back meetings with the Congress top brass in the capital and shared his “vision of Punjab” with them. Sidhu met Congress president Sonia Gandhi and AICC general secretary Priyanka Vadra on Wednesday for an hour and apprised them of the current political scenario in the state.
“Both heard me very patiently. I apprised them of the prevailing situation in Punjab and discussed with them my roadmap for the revival and self-sufficiency of Punjab. We can restore Punjab’s pride by following this roadmap. It’s the same vision on which I worked as a state minister and earlier shared with the people during my many years in public life,” he said Sidhu.
Contacted today for comments on how he viewed the meeting, Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar said Sidhu was an asset. “He can play a role both at the state and the national level, depending on what the party wants,” he said.
“Congress president is aware of the developments in the country and in Punjab. Everyone is looking at her to lead a rainbow coalition of the Opposition against the despotic BJP rule, but that is only possible if we first put our own house in order. It’s heartening to see Sonia ji starting by addressing Punjab issues,” Jakhar said.
