SPRING BLOOMS AT PAU FLOWER SHOW

The Annual Flower Show at PAU in the memory of Dr. M.S. Randhawa, former Vice Chancellor of the university concluded here today amidst audiences cheering the flower competition winners and participants. Dr Jaskaran Singh Mahal, Director of Extension Education, PAU, Ludhiana, and Chief Guest of the day distributed prizes to the winners. In his address, he appreciated the large participation of schools and nurseries in the show and also revealed that many farmers have adopted floriculture as a profitable business with an ever increasing demand for flowers.

In all 98 first and 109 second prizes, were given to enthusiastic winners in various flower categories in the flower show. Dr. Tajwant Singh, former Dean, College of Basic Sciences and Humanities and Dr. Jagdish Kaur, Additional Director (Communication) were also present at the time of prize distribution function.

B.C.M. Arya Model Senior Secondary School (Shastri Nagar) bagged the first position by taking home a total of 26 prizes in different categories. Various other schools, such as D.A.V. Public School (B.R.S. Nagar), Guru Nanak Public School (Sarabha Nagar), Sat Paul Mittal School, Delhi Public School (Pakhowal Road), DAV Public School, Civil Lines, GHG Harparkash College of Education, Sidhwan Khurd, Doraha Public School, Doraha and Kundan Vidya Mandir Sr. Secondary School etc. participated in different categories of the show. Verka Milk Plant, Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana, IREO Water Front, Technocare Nursery, Baddowal, Bagicha Nursery also participated in the competition. Prominent nurseries like Bengal Nursery, Dinesh Nursery, New Janta International, Malerkotla, Holland International Nursery, Raj Nursery, Karismatic Garden Potteries, Sammy Greens, Falcon Garden Tools, Hara Nursery, Flower Pot Stand, Hassanpur, Gagan Enterprises, put-up their stalls for sale of ornamental plants and landscape accessories, wherein exclusive varieties of planting material and decorative pots were displayed. A huge rush of visitors of all ages, city residents, students, school children and tiny tots was witnessed during the Show.

Earlier Dr. Sardara Singh Johal, Chancellor, Central University, Bathinda inaugurated the photography and painting exhibition put-up by artists Jaspreet Kaur Gill, Dr. Brij Mohan Bhardwaj and Jatinder Singh Grewal in the show. He appreciated the efforts of the artists for capturing the moments of nature through their lenses and portraying them on the canvas.

Dr. Harpinder Singh Grewal, Head of the Department congratulated the winners and the participants for their participation in the Flower Show and invited them in the next Chrysathemum show to be held in December this year.
