The Wrestling Federation of India has formally served a notice on Sushil Kumar in connection with the fracas during which a group of people alleged to be Sushil’s supporters had beaten up wrestler Parveen Rana and his brother.

In his written complaint to WFI, Rana claimed that Sushil’s supporters, at his behest, had beaten them up on the day of the trials for the Commonwealth Games on December 29. He further alleged that on December 31 a few of Sushil’s supporters again threatened him with dire consequences if he filed a complaint against the two-time Olympics medallist.

WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh personally handed the notice to Sushil. Sushil has till Saturday to submit his reply to the federation. Singh will then decide whether to end the matter or to forward the reply to WFI’s disciplinary commission. Sushil is understood to have said in his informal discussion with the WFI chief that he was being framed.

“He flatly refused that those involved in the incident were his people. He claims that a few persons are out to ruin his name while he is trying to make a comeback. But he has to write a formal reply first. We will see what action is further needed in this matter,” a source said.
