Traders rue ‘harassment’ by admn during festive season
Jammu
The Chamber of Traders’ Federation (CTF), Jammu, today condemned the “unwarranted” action of a few departments like the Jammu Development Authority (JDA) on warehouse and bus stand shopkeepers.
Addressing a press conference, Neeraj Anand, CTF president, said it was strange and deplorable that some departments, including JDA and Municipal Corporation, which remain in hibernation for most part of the year, suddenly come to life during the festive season only.
He urged upon the ministers concerned and the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, to restrain all those departments who have become habitual of harassing small shopkeepers during the festive time of the year. He warned these departments to desist from such adventurous acts. For the smooth implementation of orders, they should take heads of the trade organisations into confidence, Anand added.
Earlier, in the meeting of different association heads on Diwali held here yesterday, the CTF president appreciated the voluntary compliance shown by all and called upon them to maintain the highest standard of ethical practices in their respective trade, especially during the festival days.
“They should strictly follow the rules and regulations to earn the goodwill of the customers by providing them only genuine, pure and reasonably priced goods,” he added.
Anand also cautioned those night sellers who bring bad name to the city traders by dumping all sorts of unhygienic, spurious and inferior material in the market at lower prices, and asked the departments concerned to strictly deal with such unscrupulous outsiders.
