September 8: Road transport minister, Nitin Gadkari said he needs the pace of auto deals in India to back off vehicle deals, especially those running on diesel, stifling streets and causing expanded contamination.

“You may not like it, but I wish it from my heart that your growth should be less. If this growth continues, I will need to add one more lane to national highways, which will cost a whopping Rs 80,000 crore,” Gadkari told dazed agents of the auto business.

He was talking at an event organised by lobby group Siam to work out maintainable development programs for the vehicle business. Petroleum and diesel vehicles should clear a path for electric powertrains and motors running on other fuel variations, for example, ethanol and biofuels, street transport serve, said Nitin Gadkari

“I am going to do it, whether you like it or not. I will bulldoze. Petrol diesel banaane walon kaa band-baajaa bajaanaa hai (We will take the makers of petrol/diesel engine vehicles to task,” Gadkari said.

To eliminate utilization of autos, particularly in small towns, the clergyman said the legislature is wanting to turn out with a stage or an application – on the lines of Uber and Ola – that would encourage the utilization of bikes as a taxi.
