US BASED PAU ALUMNI CONTRIBUTE TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS TO FARM VARSITY

With an aim to promote sports and academics at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), its alumni Dr Manjeet Chinnan, Professor Emeritus, University of Georgia, USA, and his wife Lata Mahajan Chinnan, former International Hockey Player, presented a cheque of $10,000 (ten thousand dollars) to the University today. Interacting with the PAU Vice-Chancellor, Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon and other officials of the University, Dr Chinnan said, “We have pledged to contribute $100,000 (hundred thousand dollars) to PAU. The rest of the amount will be coming in parts.” Dr Chinnan, who was accompanied by his family, said they were highly impressed by the honour and hospitality, extended to them at PAU. Mrs Chinnan said the memories of the days spent in this University will be cherished in all times to come. The Chinnan Foundation also expressed their heartfelt gratitude to PAU VC.

During interaction with the US delegation, Dr Dhillon said, “Your contribution will go a long way in motivating the students to excel in sports as well as academics.” He honoured the delegation with a memento and traditional phulkari.

The experts of plant pathology, food science and technology, and microbiology informed the delegates about the development made in processing and value addition, biofertilizers, food safety, water testing and disease management.

Welcoming the visiting delegation, Dr R.S. Sidhu, Registrar, highlighted the activities of the Chinnan Foundation.

Dr S.S. Kukal, Dean, College of Agriculture, PAU, while proposing a vote of thanks, remarked, “Chinnan Foundation is a source of inspiration for PAU.”

On the occasion, PAU students, recipients of Chinnan Foundation awards, also shared their views.
Present on the occasion were senior officials of PAU, namely, Dr Navtej Bains, Director of Research; Dr J.S. Mahal, Director of Extension Education; Dr (Mrs) G.K. Sangha, Dean, College of Basic Sciences and Humanities; Dr (Mrs) J.K. Gulati, Dean, College of Home Science; and Dr (Mrs) R.K. Dhaliwal, Director Students’ Welfare.
