Vohra briefed on Central, state welfare schemes

Jammu,
Sajad Gani Lone, Minister for Social Welfare, ARI and Trainings and Science and Technology, called on Governor NN Vohra at Raj Bhawan on Wednesday.

Lone discussed with Vohra the important initiatives taken by the departments and agencies under his charge and the current implementation status of the various Central and state schemes in the social welfare sector.

The Governor discussed with Lone several serious problems faced by disabled persons and stressed the importance, which was required to be devoted for the effective management of the entire disability sector in the state.

Abdul Haq Khan, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Law and Justice also called on the Governor here on Wednesday.

Khan briefed the Governor about the important matters relating to the areas of his responsibility and about the arrangements made to defend the various important cases being heard in the apex court. He informed Vohra about the government plans to hold the panchayat elections later this year and progress achieved by the state in the construction of individual household toilets in the rural areas after the launch of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in 2014. Khan said the J&K Government’s aim was to become open defecation free by October 2019.

The Governor spoke to Khan about the crucial importance of ensuring the timely implementation of all rural development schemes and emphasised the importance of ensuring cleanliness and sanitation in all village areas.
