Women archers Asian champs

The Indian women archers (compound) beat hot favourites South Korea 230-227 in a nail-biting final of the Asian Archery Championship in Dhaka.
The trio of V. Jyothi Surekha, Trisha Deb and Parveena turned the tables on the Koreans, who were leading the match till the penultimate round to grab the title.
The Koreans led the first round 59-57 and managed to extend the lead by four points after second round. In the third end, the Indian archers reduced the margin by three points as they scored 56 points against Korea’s 55.
The last end was a highly tense affair but the Indian girls scored a perfect 60 in the deciding round. The Koreans could score only 54 points in the last end, thus losing the match by three points.
Meanwhile, the Indian compound and recurve teams (men) settled for the silver medal after losing their respective finals to the Koreans. The trio of Abhishek Verma, Rajat Chauhan and Gurwinder Singh lost the final by two points (234-232). The recurve team of Jayanta Talukdar, Atanu Das and Yashdev lost the final (1-5). The Indian women’s recurve team lost their bronze medal match to China in straight sets. India finished second behind South Korea, bagging 2 gold, 3 silver and one bronze medal in the championship.
Earlier, Abhishek Verma and V. Jyothi Surekha had won gold and bronze, respectively, in the individual category. The duo had won the silver medal in the mixed team event.
Haryana archers win quota places for Youth Olympics
Meanwhile, two Indians (one boy and a girl) also booked quota places for the 2018 Youth Olympics. Haryana girl Himani Kumari, 15, defeated her Mongolian opponent Bayasgalan Badamjuani 7-1 in the recurve cadet bronze playoff to bag the quota.
