Former Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti on Monday ruled out challenging the dismissal of the J&K Assembly by the Governor.

Since the controversial dismissal of the Assembly on November 21, which has been widely criticised and termed unconstitutional, demands have been coming from different corners that the PDP should challenge the decision before the Supreme Court. The Governor had, however, justified the dissolution of the Assembly.

“Some sincere suggestions from well wishers for me to go to court against Governor’s dissolution of the Assembly. The PDP, NC, INC had come together to safeguard state interests. It is my considered opinion that we must go to people’s court, which is superior to any other forum,” Mehbooba said in a tweet.

Peoples Conference chairman Sajad Lone, who had also staked claim for government formation after the PDP-led grand alliance took the step, dared Mehbooba to challenge the dissolution of the state Assembly in court.

“We would be more than glad to prove our numbers on the floor of the Assembly,” Lone, an ally of the BJP who is trying to create a ‘third front’ in the Valley, had said.
