Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is likely to be the Congress candidate for the August 26 Rajya Sabha election for a lone seat from Rajasthan that fell vacant recently due to the death of a sitting BJP member.

Singh whose term from Assam ended in July has been awaiting his return to RS ever since.The Congress has a majority in Rajasthan and will win the election to the seat.

The Election Commission today detailed the schedule for the Rajya Sabha election for the vacant Rajasthan seat saying the election will take place on August 26, and results will also be announced the same day.EC will issue notification for the election on August 7 and August 14 will be the last date of nominations. August 19 will be the last date for withdrawal of nomination.Congress sources indicated Manmohan Singh has to be brought back to RS at the earliest occasion and Rajasthan was a winning seat.
