In the United States, at least one person killed and three others injured when a gunman opened fire at a synagogue in California. The synagogue had been hosting a Passover celebration when the shooting took place.

A 19-year-old man from the city of San Diego had been detained over the shooting. Police meanwhile arrested a person in connection with the shooting. The shooting in the town of Poway came exactly six months after a white supremacist shot dead 11 people at Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life synagogue, the deadliest attack on the Jewish community in the history of the United States.

Condemning at attack, US President Donald Trump said the attack “looks like a hate crime”. Speaking outside the White House, President Trump offered his “deepest sympathies” to all those affected.
