One year ago, North and South Korean leaders Kim Jong Un and Moon Jae-in met in the Demilitarized Zone. North Korea did not respond to the South’s invitation for the ceremony at Panmunjom to commemorate their landmark meeting.

South Korea on Saturday marked the first anniversary of the summit between the country’s leader Moon Jae-in and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un in the Demilitarised Zone separating the two Koreas.

Hundreds of local and foreign guests gathered in the border village of Panmunjom, where Moon and Kim met, for a series of music performances and other events highlighting cross-border rapprochement fostered since the summit.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in vowed continued outreach to North Korea on Saturday, saying the path to peace on the Korean Peninsula was irreversible despite temporary setbacks.
