Can’t stop interaction with students: Tanwar

Rewari
Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee president Ashok Tanwar on Wednesday strongly reacted to an apparent move of the Indira Gandhi University authorities against his visit to the university on Thursday.

“No one can stop me from interacting with university students about their problems and future plans as it is my democratic right. The authorities will have to face the consequences if they try to spoil my interaction with the students. I am not a criminal whose visit to the university can be restricted,” he said.

He said the BJP government was claiming to be ready for students’ polls after two decades while a plot was being hatched to curb the entry of a students’ leader in the university, exposing the double face of the government, he added.

The university authorities had issued a notice ahead of Tanwar’s visit that political activities were not allowed on the campus. The notice sparked anger among Tanwar supporters, who pointed out that INLD, BJP and RSS leaders could visit the university any time.

Tanwar said the university was named after late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and it was unfortunate that the authorities were trying to restrict the entry of the state president of her party.

Sources said the university’s security guards had verbally been told not to open the main gate for entry of vehicles of outsiders on Thursday and check identity cards of visitors before letting them in.
