Guv briefed on initiatives taken in tech education

Prof Anil Sahasrabudhe, Chairman, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), accompanied by Dipan Kr Sahu, Consultant, Student Start-up Policy Implementation Unit, met Governor NN Vohra at Raj Bhawan.

Sahasrabudhe briefed the Governor about the ongoing activities of the AICTE to bring significant qualitative improvement in technical education being imparted in the state and about the AICTE’s student start-up policy which had been designed to guide AICTE-approved institutions to promote student-driven innovations and start-ups. He requested the Governor, who is the Chancellor of state universities, to help institutionalising and integrating the efforts of the state start-up mission to harness the creative potential of youth across academia.

The Governor observed that Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra, had already established a technology business incubation centre for encouraging the spirit of entrepreneurship among people of the state and had successfully incubated 12 start-ups through the centre.

The Governor lauded Sahasrabudhe’s initiative in supporting efforts to identify the innovative and entrepreneurial potential of students and transforming them into start-up entrepreneurs. The Governor promised Sahasrabudhe that he would very soon convene a meeting of all Vice Chancellors and heads of higher education institutions in the state to discuss and prepare a roadmap for this purpose.

Meanwhile, Prof Anju Bhasin, Vice Chancellor of the Cluster University of Jammu, called on Governor NN Vohra at Raj Bhawan. Bhasin briefed the Governor about the ongoing initiatives for promoting quality higher education in the colleges affiliated with the university and for introducing new and advanced teaching programmes which were relevant to the existing and arising employment opportunities.

The Governor observed that the successful functioning of cluster universities would go a long way in augmenting higher education facilities in the state. He advised Bhasin to strive for making the university a hub of excellence in teaching and research.

Meanwhile, Dr Pradeep Kumar Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu, met Governor NN Vohra at Raj Bhawan and briefed him about various important academic and administrative matters relating to the functioning of the university and the Krishi Vigyan Kendras in Jammu division.

The Governor advised him to focus on region-specific technological options with the clear objective of working for securing the target of doubling farmers’ incomes.
