HC declines urgent hearing of AAP MP Khalsa’s plea on next CJI
New Delhi,
The Delhi High Court on Wednesday declined to grant an urgent hearing to a plea opposing the appointment of Justice Dipak Misra as the next Chief Justice of India.
A petition in this regard was mentioned before a bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar which said the matter will be heard in routine course.
The bench also expressed its displeasure that the petitioner was canvassing the case before the press and media.
An official notification from Ministry of Law yesterday said Justice Dipak Misra, the senior most judge in the Supreme Court, will be the 45th Chief Justice of India, succeeding incumbent J S Khehar.
The plea by Harinder Singh Khalsa, an AAP MP from Fatehgarh Sahib constituency of Punjab, has opposed Misra’s succession to the post of CJI claiming that there were serious allegations against him.
