KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS VISIT PAU

A thirty member delegation comprising under graduate students and faculty members from agri-business and agri-economics departments of the Kansas State University, USA, visited Punjab Agricultural University today. Dr Andrew Barkley, an agricultural economist and faculty member at Kansas University highlighted agricultural similarities between the two states and shared how the focus had shifted from productivity to profitability and building value chains. “Kansas State University already has research linkages with PAU” , he said and that it should foster stronger relations for future collaboration.
Earlier, Dr K.S. Thind, Additional Director of Research, Crop Improvement, briefed the students about the agrarian set up of Punjab and the role of PAU in building its economy. The students were shown a presentation on the agriculture based economy of Punjab by Dr Sukhpal Singh, Head Department of Economics and Sociology. Dr Khushdeep Dharni from the Department of Business Management outlined the value chain system and discussed the skill development programme of PAU for imparting training to young entrepreneurs.The group later visited the Wheat Genomics Lab followed by the Food Industry Centre.
