Describing the recurring attacks on security personnel in Kashmir as “sheer frustration” on the part of terrorists, Central Reserve Police Force Director General RR Bhatnagar on Friday claimed that the forces have the upper hand in the Valley.

“Attacking security personnel reflects the frustration of the terrorists as we have the upper hand in the Kashmir valley. They are trying to spread terror by killing security men in their homes,” the DG told reporters here.The CRPF chief said 142 militants had been neutralised in Jammu and Kashmir this year so far while about 250 militants were active in the state.
Bhatnagar said the security forces were facing two major challenges in the Valley terrorism and law and order situation. He claimed that the force was effectively dealing with both the issues.

He said the CRPF was using less-lethal weapons, including plastic bullets and pellet guns, to deal with the law and order situation, particularly stone-throwing. “From 2016 till date, the number of personnel getting injured has come down in the Valley as we are using full body protectors now,” Bhatnagar said.

He said the security of camps had also been upgraded. The CRPF has more than 450 camps in the Kashmir valley.The DG said they had started a helpline on which they got 2.5 lakh calls from different areas of the state.
