PAU HOLDS CONDOLENCE MEETING, PAYS TRIBUTES TO DR G.S. KALKAT

A condolence meeting was held at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) to pay tributes to an eminent agricultural scientist, a seasoned administrator and former Vice-Chancellor of PAU, Dr G.S. Kalkat, who bade adieu to this world on January 27, 2018.

Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, said, “Dr Kalkat was a scientist par excellence, who made tremendous contribution to Green Revolution in Punjab. He was a humanitarian, who served farming community with utmost dedication. He worked tirelessly for the economic well-being of the farmers, agri-sustainability and natural resource conservation.” The soybean revolution in Madhya Pradesh speaks of his dedicated work in this field, he stated. Dr Kalkat’s demise is a big loss to agrarian community, he said.

While sharing his experience, Dr Manjit Singh Kang, former Vice-Chancellor, PAU, said Dr Kalkat was a decent man and an able administrator, who helped PAU in getting funds for sending PAU scientists to US for training. “Punjab will always remember Dr Kalkat’s vital contribution to agriculture,” he added.

Dr Kirpal Singh Aulakh, former Vice-Chancellor, PAU, said Dr Kalkat was compassionate, humble, down to earth and above all, a noble soul.

Dr S.S. Johl, Chancellor, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, while paying rich tributes to Dr Kalkat, remarked, “I have lost a friend.” He was an excellent human being, and his contributions to the development of agriculture will always be remembered in the years to come, he said.

Dr R.S. Sidhu, Registrar, while reading out the resolution, said Dr Kalkat’s contribution to economic upliftment of rural populace can never be forgotten. He was a harbinger of Green Revolution and agriculture in Punjab flourished under his stewardship, he observed.

During the meet, PAU VC, former Vice Chancellors, deans, directors, faculty and staff of the University expressed their sympathies to the members of his family and prayed for the peace of departed soul. The University declared holiday on January 29
