Specialised medical procedures such as angioplasty (insertion of stents) and lithotripsy (non-surgical removal of kidney and urinary tract stones) will soon be started at the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences here.

The PGIMS will also have a modular operation theatre-cum-ICU complex. It will have 16 modular operation theatres and three ICUs with 32 beds.

University of Health Sciences Vice-Chancellor Prof OP Kalra told this to the media here on Tuesday. “A Cath Lab at the department of cardiology had been lying nonfunctional for two years. It will be revived to restart angiography and angioplasty procedures,” he said.

The online OPD registration facility and Jan Aushadhi store would soon be started, Prof Kalra said, adding an MD course in sports medicine and a Sports Injury Centre would were also in the pipeline.

“A CT scan machine will soon be installed at the Trauma Centre, which will be centrally air-conditioned. A central library will be opened in the PGIMS,” he added.
